Dealing With a Perpetually Rude, Insensitive, and Disrespectful to Others, Subordinate

The leader’s behavior towards the subordinate will be according to whether the leader is adopting McGregor Theory X or Theory Y. I see that the best solution is avoiding the fundamental attribution error, and applying theory Y assumptions and if it failed, move to theory X as the following.

The Video below illustrate McGregor Theory X or Theory Y.

1- The leader should communicate with the subordinate and try to listen to him and understand his/her point of view and understand the whole actual situation and according to the conclusion, the leader will follow one of the next scenarios.

Scenario 1

2- If the subordinate is the problem maker, the leader should advise him and give him feedback about how to correct his bad behavior.

3- The leader has to follow up on the situation and the progress of the subordinate while providing all means to correct the subordinate bad behavior (Dealing with him politely, giving him other tasks that fit his character).

4-If the subordinate still creating problems, a warning letter will be sent to him threatening him by firing and applying punishment according to the company policy.

5- If the subordinate will insist on his nonacceptable behavior, then firing him will be the right decision .

Scenario 2

2- If the problem’s main cause is not the subordinate, the leader has to understand the main causes and try to understand the nature of the subordinate.

3- The leader must work on eliminating the problem causes.

4- Sometimes the problem cause may require assigning the subordinate to another task that fits his nature.

5- The leader should follow up and make sure the problem is solved.
